JOEL 2:12-14
12 That is why the LORD says, “Turn to me now, while there is time.
Give me your hearts.
Come with fasting, weeping, and mourning.
13 Don’t tear your clothing in your grief,
but tear your hearts instead.”
Return to the LORD your God,
for he is merciful and compassionate,
slow to get angry and filled with unfailing love.
He is eager to relent and not punish.
14 Who knows? Perhaps he will give you a reprieve,
sending you a blessing instead of this curse
In Biblical times the proper and acceptable way to show one's anger or grief was to tear your clothes. This was demonstrated when you grieved the lost of a loved one, and even when the judgement of God was against you or your people. But the prophet Joel instructed the people of God to consider tearing their hearts....and not their clothes. One of the definition of tearing: is the act of violently dividing and disrupting...and when you think of how our hearts mislead us to doing things that our flesh wants....what greater picture is there than disrupting this pattern of thinking. What is it that your heart is really set on?
People don't be decieved....GOD gave you this day for a reason....and just maybe you too, need to tear your heart away from the things that will cause you death....not bring you life! LGLP
